The Biggest Inter-Celtic Festival , Splann Does Lorient!

What a summer Splann had, playing at so many festivals and venues along the way!

Cornish musicians on a Breton Festival stage

We started the spring with Shennaghys Jiu on the Isle of Man, followed by the privilege of playing on the main stage at the Fisherman's Friends Festival, then Rock Oyster, before heading off to Lorient in Brittany for the Festival Interceltique de Lorient.

We'd all been to Lorient separately before, but never together as a band.

For those of you who've been before, you'll know the sheer number of stages, bands, dance groups and audiences throughout the festival. And of course, let's not forget the bagpipes!

Finley was also at the festival, taking part in one of the youth camps where a young musician from each of the Celtic nations comes together to form a group. They spend the week before the festival rehearsing, then perform multiple times throughout the festival, sometimes to crowds of over 5,000 people. They were quite amazing!

We performed on the Les Terrasses stage on Sunday evening. What an audience, and what support we had, not only from regular festivalgoers but from our fellow Cornish as well!

There was plenty of impromptu dancing, and I swear the Cornish were doing the Macarena at one stage!

We played a selection of Cornish tunes, with Finley singing some traditional Cornish songs. There was a huge amount of interest, with people asking us all sorts of questions about the band, Cornish music, tunes and songs.

We were there to represent Cornwall, and we certainly felt we'd achieved that.

Hopefully it won't be too long before we're back!
